And according to Drug Fight Malawi, the country is the first in the Sub-Saharan Africa to develop and approve evidence based policy on alcohol.
The National Alcohol Policy is expected to be launched on August 18, 2017, at Kantchito Primary School Ground in Bembeke in the Area of Traditional Authority Kamenyagwaza in Dedza, at a function to be presided over by the Minister of Health Atupele Muluzi.
Government in conjunction with Drug Fight Malawi, a local non-governmental organization advocating for reduction of drugs and alcohol abuse developed the policy.
The purpose of the policy is to support the public health-oriented and social-economic policies in reducing alcohol-attributable harm.
