Citing some of the reasons that force girls into premature marriages, Executive Director for Genet Faith Phiri, pointed out lack of financial support to cater for day to day basic needs.
She said Genet has lined up a number of programs aimed at keeping girls in school. Phiri added that girl clubs have been introduced aimed at training the girls in human rights, women empowerment and gender matters.
In response to this, Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare spokesperson, Lucy Bandazi said this year has started on a good note because one hundred and fifty children have been rescued already with support from UN women.
