MUTHARIKA appoints Nankhumwa as Leader of House

PRESIDENT Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has appointed Agriculture Minister Kondwani Nankhumwa as Leader of the House, a position he also held in the 2014-2019 parliament.

Labour, Skills and Innovation Minister Martha Mhone Chanjo is the Deputy Leader of the House, according to a June 20 statement by Llyod Muhara, Chief Secretary to the Government.

 

Symon Vuwa Kaunda, Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, is Government Chief Whip, while Mary Thom Navicha, Minister of Gender, Childern, Disability and Social Welfare, is the Deputy Whip.

 

The President officially opens the 48th session of Parliament on June 21 with MCP legislator Catherine Gotani Hara as the country's first female Speaker since independence in 1964.
