Vice President donates to mothers in Mzimba

As part of celebrating and honoring mothers for the parental roles they play in the upbringing and caring of their children in particular and the community in general, mothers in Mzimba District, led by the Princess of the Ngonis of Mzimba under His Royal Highness, Inkosi ya Makhosi M’mbelwa the Fifth, organised a mother’s day event at Edingeni, the district’s headquarters.

In appreciation for their other role as advisors to the traditional leaders in the district, Ndhlovukazi (Ngoni queen mothers) and Makhosikazi (wives of all the inkosis) from all the areas in the district were honored.


Vice President  Everton Chimulirenji attended the celebrations during which his office donated a 50 kg bag of maize to each of the 150 women from the district.


Some women from Nkhata Bay, Rumphi and Chitipa who attended the function also received the donation.


Organised under the banner of Mzimba Heritage Association, the celebrations, the first of its kind in Mzimba, attracted all traditional leaders from the district and two from Dowa who fall under Inkosi ya Makhosi M’mbelwa of Mzimba.


In his address, the Vice President said women play an important role in society, hence the need to respect them.


“Mothers are a pillar for the country’s socioeconomic development. The roles they play as they raise us, as children are so crucial that we need to respect and honor them. It is our responsibility as children and communities to take care of our mothers,” said Chimulirenji.


The event was spiced by different performances which included poems, traditional dances and songs of thanksgiving and praises to all mothers in general.
