Red Cross Project Officer for Mzuzu Division Titus Namacha was speaking during a big walk marking the beginning of this year`s Flag Week.
Namacha explained that this year`s flag week was very important since money realized would be channeled to flood victims in the fifteen districts of Malawi.
“This year the theme is ‘Humanity in Disaster,’ and because of that the money sourced in this flag week will be used to assist our brothers and sisters who are badly hit by floods in the country,” explained Namacha.
“We organized this big walk to remind and sensitize people about the flag week and what we intend to do this year,” added Namacha.
He also said that the Society aims at assisting in repatriating flood victims as they are hopeless and have nothing for their normal living.
Namacha mentioned a number of things like shelter, food, clothing and other household materials which he said needed more financial support.

And speaking earlier, Chairperson for Mzuzu Red Cross Society Jomo Honde said it was important for Malawians to start helping themselves before external assistance.
“It is very important for Malawians to start helping each other rather than waiting for assistance from outside the country. So let me ask everyone to assist in order for Red Cross to help fellow Malawians,” said Honde.
The Big walk commenced at Mzuzu High court through High Way, City Centre, Chibanja and ended at Lubinga Township in the City.
