Malawi and China bilateral ties strengthened

President says the Chinese Government has positively changed the physical and Economic landscape of the country.

Professor Peter Mutharika was speaking at Sanjika Palace when he met a delegation from the Chinese Government which is in the country for a two day visit.


The Delegation is led by Zhang Ping who is Vice Chairman of the standing committee of the National People's Congress of China.


President Mutharika said since 2007 when Malawi switched bilateral relations from Taiwan to Republic of China the country has experienced tremendous development related to trade and investment contributed by the Chinese government.


He told the Chinese delegation that Malawi would want this good relationship to continue but in a more robust way.


The President said while Malawi was grateful for the current developmental assistance from the Chinese it was now looking forward to private investment from Chinese Investors.


At this point he informed the delegates about the Investment Compendium which government recently released.


Zhang Ping Vice Chairman of the standing committee of the National People's Congress of China said he was impressed with the Public Sector Reforms that the current administration had embarked on.


Mr Zhang said he was confident that under President Mutharika's leadership Malawians will experience great progress in development.


He said he was in the country to strengthen the bilateral ties between China and Malawi which had already been fruitful over the years.


While in the country the Chinese Delegation is expected to discuss with the President and other officials on investment.
