This was said by the Vice President Saulosi Chilima on Thursday when he received reports from Parastatal Organizations in the Southern in Blantyre.

The Parastatals presented their reports at the end of the 30-day period which they were given to present their ideas on how they can make their organizations perform better.

Principal Secretary for public sector reform management unit Nwazi Tamanya Nthambala said the fact that the program was launched by the head of state is a clear sign that there is enough political will.

“There are changes that have so far taken place such as the de-centralization of the issuing of passports and the president is very interested in this program,” said Nthambala.

Nthambala also said that the companies are going to sign service charters that would be used as grade them.

Meanwhile, Nthambala has advised people to watch Parastatal companies with keen interest by monitoring their performance so that companies can perform to their best interest.

“Malawians will be required be monitoring the companies and grade them according to their performance. So it’s not only for the companies but citizens too have a role to play in program,” said Nthambala.

The reforms were introduced by government to revamp the performance of the entire civil service.

“Everyone has seen the effects of Cashgate. I don’t think Malawians would want that to happen again. So reforms have come to address issues like those,” added Nthambala.

Some of the companies include ESCOM, Blantyre Water Board (BWB), Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and the Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) just to mention a few.

The final report on these reforms is expected to be out by early next week according to Nthambala.
