Minister of Labour and Manpower Development, Henry Mussa was responding to concerns raised by Job Centre; a recruitment agency, over lack of regulation in the sector which has led to clandestine recruitment of people in international jobs.
“What job centre has pointed is already being addressed by government to come up with a legal framework,” said Mussa adding that Government would like to have the legal framework that covers Malawians when they are working in foreign countries in as far as their work conditions is concerned.
The Minister said that some of the problems Malawians meet when they go to foreign countries is failure to follow cultural values like dress code of the country they work in. Mussa pointed out that his Ministry is aware of the challenges and will fast track the framework formulation process.
Meanwhile, Job Centre a recruitment agency asked government to register all job recruitment agencies in the country which should include physically visiting their places of work to authenticate their existence as some of them are bogus.
The recruitment said that regulation can end the cause of human trafficking that has left many Malawians abused at work places in foreign countries like Kuwait.
The recruitment agency further said after registering the recruitment agencies, Government should give them licenses as evidence that they are authorized to recruit people for foreign jobs.
