Professor Mutharika was speaking in Chilomoni Township after touring roads being constructed in Limbe, Bangwe, Manja and Chilomoni in the City of Blantyre.
"Apart from those inspected, we are also upgrading township roads of Angelo Goveya, Manje, Mongwe, Chinseu, Chimwankhunda, Ma Land Rover Chilimba and Railways. Then, we will also have bypasses from Chigumula Trading Centre to Mapanga, via Bangwe and Mzedi, from Chigumula to Mpemba Trading Centre via Soche Quarry, from Mpemba to Chilomoni via Pensulo and Chigwaja Townships and another bypass from Chileka Airport to Ngumbe via Army Secondary School, to M1 Road," said President adding that once all roads are done, Blantyre will be a new city.

"These development projects are our way of setting new standards. This is our signature; this is our style. This is the way the DPP Government wants to do things," said the Malawi leader.
President Mutharika therefore emphasized that it is the wish of the DPP government to construct good roads across the country. He said roads such as the ones government is reconstructing help to reduce traffic jams in cities.
"Malawi needs good road infrastructure to ease access to public services such as hospitals, schools and markets among others. We are upgrading these roads to reduce congestion and ease the flow of traffic. Besides, good roads reduce vehicle maintenance costs. This is good news to minibus operators too," said Mutharika.
Professor Mutharika said funds used in the project of the roads are locally sourced from taxes. The President then encouraged Malawians to pay taxes.
He also advised Malawians to take care of the roads and desist from vandalising road signs. Professor Mutharika said his government will ensure all roads in the cities have street lights.
In his speech, Professor Mutharika also assured Malawians that his government will continue with the Subsidy Programme on Malata and Cement.
On the killings and abductions of people with albinism the President urged Malawians to treat them as brothers and sisters.
