According to BIU Director of Finance, Chikhu Chanthunya who is the overseer of the construction said classes and toilets will be done by mid this year. Chanthunya said once the classes are done, each class will accommodate 54 students.
“Each class will accommodate 54 students, each classroom will have multimedia services; projectors, air conditioners and speakers in the ceiling and six sockets,” said Chanthunya adding that the modern facility will also have modern hostels and other facilities.
The Finance Director further said the school will have 18 classrooms which are even suitable to those with physical challenges.
“We are speeding up the construction so that it should be done in time despite some of the challenges we are facing,” he said pointing out that students should not worry as management of the institution is working tirelessly to improve learning environment which promotes and models global understanding and multicultural perspectives in all areas of academic life.
Chanthunya further pointed out that once the University moves to its purpose built campus it will have adequate space for sports activities like netball, football, among others. The school will also construct houses for its staff members.
He further said that there will be no shortage of water at the new campus as the school has implemented a solar power borehole which will be generating a lot of litres of water per day.
BIU was established in 2008 and was accredited by Malawi government in 2010. Currently, the University is operating from a rented building (Tikumbe) in New Naperi, Blantyre.
