Minister of Civic Education, Culture and Community Development Patricia Kaliati sounded the warning at Mpingu in Lilongwe during a civic education meeting.

Kaliati said the trend has contributed to the increase of school dropouts among young people who she said opt to watching movies in the show rooms as opposed to attending classes.

“We are sending a warning to those doing this business that they are making people to be lazy instead of working in their different fields. We will ask the District Councils to make by-laws,” said Kaliati.

She said children are being disturbed with the film shows where things like pornographic are being beamed. The Minister added that her ministry is also engaging chiefs to deal with some of the cultural practices.

“For us to reduce early marriages and pregnancies we need to look into some of these factors,” she said.
