“As you celebrate your independence on 18th April, I wish to express to Your Excellency, the Government and people of the Republic of Zimbabwe, heartfelt congratulations from the Government and the people of the Republic of Malawi,” reads the statement in part.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation also says Malawi enjoys the bilateral relations that exist between two countries.
“May the cordial bonds of friendship that exist between our two countries continue to grow from strength to strength for the mutual benefit of our two peoples. Please accept, Your Excellecy, my best wishes for your personal good health, and continued peace and prosperity for the people of the Republic of Zimbabwe,” reads the statement.
On 18th April in 1980, Southern-Rhodesia gained independence from the British rule, taking the name Zimbabwe. Zimbabwean independence is celebrated on April 18 each year and Robert Mugabe has been at the helm since independence.
