Speaking during the staff members performance award Sumbuleta assured staff members that the management would strive to provide better working conditions.

Among other things he assured that the management would ensure that transport problem that staff members, especially journalists face in the course of their work was addressed.

“It is management commitment that these activities will continue every three months to motivate the employees," Sumbuleta said.

“I want competition to be stiff among members of staff. It is my hope that I will have different faces when we hold another function.”

But the Director General appealed to the staff members to be committed and proud when discharging their work.

“I would like to remind you that since MBC was established in 1974 we were the only radio station. But there has been a transformation with a lot of changes with the coming in of a number of radio stations,” he said.

“When the TV station was established in 1999 we were the only TV station. But the terrain has changed. So we need to change our mindset because if we don’t we will run out of business.”

Director of Programmes Albert Mungomo, who was a co-chairperson of the organising committee said the winners were outstanding in their respective work.

“It it is the wish of the Director General that these awards should be taking place every three months,” Mungomo said.

“They (winners) should risk, dream, perform, never excuse themselves, held themselves responsibility and display high standards more than it is expected.”

He also acknowledged that the dawn of new media houses has created stiff competition in the media industry.

The awards were presented to 26 outstanding staff members drawn from various departments from administration, commercial and news departments across the country.
