The obtaining of the injunction gave some doubts over the future of the revived red star campaign with others thinking that it has hit a snag.
The council through its spokesperson Anthony Kasunda told MBC that BCC is not going to bow down to the owners saying their lawyers have been instructed to battle it in court.
Kasunda said the Council’s legal team obtained mandate from the Red Star Campaign committee chaired by the Deputy Mayor Councilor Wild Ndipo to file documents with the High Court.
“The Council is determined to vacate the court order stopping the demolition of buildings belonging to 54 business persons mostly in Limbe Central Business District,” reads in part the statement released on Wednesday.
President Peter Mutharika in February last year inaugurated the Red Star Campaign that would see some buildings in Blantyre City being pulled down completely and others being renovated in a bid to make the city beautiful and meet international standards.
BCC through the Red Star Campaign has earmarked 161 buildings for demolition in central business districts of Limbe and Blantyre.
Most of the buildings in the city were built long time ago and turned to be an eyesore and danger to general public due to their poor condition.
