Black Missionaries keyboardist dies

Death has been announced of the keyboardist, who was playing the second keys in the Chileka based Reggie group Black Missionaries, Gift Thugo.

Thugos relationship with the band dates back to the year 2000 when he was a member of the Wailing Brothers, the band that recorded Evison Matafale’s first album, Kuimba 1.


He succumbed to pneumonia on Monday in Mulanje district at the age of 33.

 

Thugo was expected to under-go a medical check-up at Mulanje Mission Hospital on Wednesday.


Many details have not been provided so far but Black Missionaries lead vocalist Anjiru Fumulani confirmed Thugo’s death calling it a big blow.


“He has been with the group for years and we are all in great pain,” said Fumulani.


Thugo who was born on October 30, 1982 hailed from Thyolo District.
