Spokesperson in the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Wiskes Mkombezi said the number of visitors registered represents 91 percent of the total number of people who have so far accessed the website.

“Our system enables us to see how many people have visited our page. The portal enables users to see what type of information they require if they want to import as well as export, to get licensed and all trading regulations in Malawi,” said Mkombezi adding that the Portal will help to push the country forward on the international trade index.

During the launch of the Trade Portal Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism Joseph Mwanamvekha assured private sector that the portal will be regularly updated and called upon various agencies of Government and private sector to support the portal. He perceived the portal to contribute towards easing the doing business index in Malawi.

Meanwhile, Malawi is the second country in Africa after Botswana to have a trade portal, a website that contains laws, regulations, and application forms, among others.

The development of the portal was financially supported by World Bank Group.

The portal can be accessed at www.malawitradeportal.gov.mw for more information.
