President of the Association, Emmanuel Banda said this in Blantyre during awareness workshop on redundancy and retrenchment, a discussion on the planned amendment of Section 57 of the Employment Act.
“We are addressing issues that are prevalent on our market, high cost of doing business and consequences that are coming with it like retrenchments, downsizing and there is also a push for section 57 to be amended,” said Banda adding that this will help ECAM as Voice of Employers in Malawi to come up with a position.
Banda further said that through lobbing and advocacy ECAM will be able to come up with the concrete stand and tangible facts that can address challenges that are currently on the market.
The two main Guest Speakers at the workshop Justice Matonga and Justice Rachael Sophie Sikwese presented on the issues that mostly affect the Employers in the country in the course of doing their businesses.
Justice Matonga presented under the theme “collective bargaining rights, engagement of Employers and workers at Enterprise level” while Justice Rachael Sophie Sikwese made a presentation on “dealing with retrenchments and redundancies”.
