Spokesperson in the Ministry of Labour, Youth and Manpower Development Symon Mbvundula said the program will help to promote the three pillars of Patriotism, Integrity and Hard work among the youth.
“The initiative is there to ensure that National Youth Service is in place. What we are trying to achieve is to have a generation of productive youth,” said Mbvundula adding that government is dedicated to uplift the life of the youth in the country in various aspects of life.
According to Mbvundula, the youth will be empowered in ICT and agriculture skills among others.
“We want the youth that would have good citizenship, we want them to prepare for the future and to contribute positively to the national agenda,” added Mbvundula explaining that economic sustainability of the country can be achieved once youth follow the three pillars of government and by giving the youth necessary skills as well as knowledge.
“Government is only interested to prepare young people for the future through giving them the necessary survival skills,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Government of Malawi launched the community colleges programme which is one of its strategies to address rampant youth unemployment through imparting of vocational skills.
