Don’t stretch me too far, APM warns Chilima movement

President Prof Arthur Peter Mutharika has warned some members of the Democratic Progressive Party DPP castigating him to stop forthwith, or risk facing the long arm of the law.

Professor Mutharika was speaking during a whistle stop tour from Blantyre to Muloza in Mulanje. Mutharika drew the attention of the masses to the press conference conducted by those canvassing for the second in command- Chilima.


The Malawi leader said disrespecting the President’s office is an offense as stipulated under section 4 of the republican constitution.

 

“Don’t push me too far, you better stop,” said President Mutharika while appealing to the people of Mulanje to continue supporting the DPP leadership.

 

Professor Mutharika further thanked the people for supporting DPP even when the party was in opposition at a time when a lot of members of parliament left the party.

 

“You have been with me since the time we lost President Bingu, and I will be with you in 2019 till 2024,” he added.

 

For her part, DPP Secretary General Grezeldar Jeffrey said people like Patricia Kaliati, Noel Masangwi among others who do not want President Mutharika now are forgetting where they are coming from. She also cautioned the conduct of former First Lady Calista Mutharika saying she lacks respect and discipline.

 

Jeffrey however called upon all Malawians to register with Malawi Electoral Commission – MEC so that they vote for Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika during next year’s tripartite elections.

 

Paramount Chief Ngolongoliwa who was also at the function said Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is a God given gift. He thanked President Mutharika for looking into chiefs' welfare in the country.

 

On his way to Muloza President Mutharika stopped at Chigumula, Bvumbwe, Thyolo Boma, Luchenza, Chonde, Chinakanaka, Msika wa Njala in Mulanje and Chitakale.
