“As we agree, the foundations and character of our society depend on how we reaise our children. I therefore appeal to women across the country to continue raising our children with values of patriotism, integrity and hard work,” the President said in a special to women celebrating Mother’s Day through MBC’s Zokonda Amayi programme.

Mutharika said women were the “pillars of our homes and fountains of wisdom for our children.

“Women are the first providence of love, care and the values we pass to society,” he said.

The women, led by First Lady Gerturde Mutharika, assembled at Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi on Saturday to celebrate Mother’s Day.

The President said Mother’s Day was befitting “that we recognise our women for their immense contribution in the building of our society.”

Mutharika said above all, children should be taught to live with one another in peace. “Let us make a peaceful generation,” he added.

The President wished “all the best to all women across the country and a successful Zokonda Amayi programme.”
