Miller said prudent use of resources by ADC has enabled completion of the projects as per agreed time frames.

“Ambuya Development Centre and the community here have done a commendable job. The fellowship hall is coming along, it’s going to serve over a thousand people, the potable water project and the housing initiative, all these have a big impact to the community here and we are impressed as Cross International. This partnership will continue for a number of years coming as you can see the fellowship hall and housing projects here are just at the onset,” said Miller.

Early this year the country experienced the worst devastating floods in the history of the nation that claimed 60 lives, displaced 975,000 and 672 people were injured. In Thanganyika village 335 houses fell and ADC in collaboration with its partners embarked on a construction project using eco-friendly bricks.

One of the beneficiaries of the housing project, Rhoda Chaswa said since her hey days she never had a privilege of sleeping in a decent house with cement floor and corrugated iron sheets. She said ADC and its partners have brought a new lease of life to some of the villagers.

“This is something I never dreamt of, my life has changed. We now have a decent house.”

According to Dr. Victor Madziakapita, a professional development specialist who has worked in many parts of the world with international organisations, including World Vision International, ADC has a target to construct 100 houses resources being available but in the initial stages ADC and its partners have earmarked 17 houses. Of the total, 14 houses have been completed and 3 others are at an advanced stage.

American based Catholic Christian Organisation (CCO), funded 10 houses while seven were constructed with financial support from CI.

“We are using the resources so well; this is the reason why you are able to see the work that has been done so far. If you look at the water facility its now functional and when you look at the houses we have built for people who were affected by torrential rains, when you look at the children who are coming here to have lunch from Monday to Saturday, when you look at the toddlers who are thirty or so who are taken care of by ADC as pre-school pupils and when you look at the women who are coming to the centre to get loans for small scale businesses and many other activities, you would appreciate that ADC is doing a lot of work on the ground,” said Dr. Madziakapita.

He also said as a Christian organisation, the construction of the multipurpose hall in the village will enhance progress of many socio-economic activities.

Said Dr. Madziakapita, “As a Christian organisation we want Christ to be honoured as such this facility when completed will provide a conducive environment for fellowship activities, We want to see souls being saved in this community, we want to see Christians being strengthened in this community, the children will make use of this centre, public meetings will be held here. We have a grand plan for this centre and we will only disclose some of the activities when it is completed but it will be a hub for this village.”

Summing up, Senior Chief Kuntaja said, “ADC is focusing on the very key areas for human survival. Let them continue with the good work. I feel proud when we have people in the village who are development conscious.”

The non governmental organisation rolled out its operations in 2013. It focuses on orphans and vulnerable children, women empowerment, providing clean and safe water, relief and housing to poor families.
