Poly students sign bonds on discipline

Written by

The Malawi Polytechnic is set to open soon with almost a month since its closure.

September

The school was closed two days after opening when students took it to the streets to demonstrate against government`s delay to disburse allowances.

Following the closure University of Malawi (UNIMA) registrar Benedicto Okomoatani Malunga told MBC two weeks ago that the school would only open once University council and students Union agree on the lasting solutions to the never ending violence by the students.

The students are signing bonds promising that they would not take part in any illegal demonstration at the school.

According to one of the forms, which MBC online has in custody, students are signing and agreeing to be prosecutedunder the laws of Malawi as well of UNIMA disciplinary rules and regulations if found taking part in any illegal demonstration.

“I declare and willing to register and resume studies as UNIMA student having accepted to abide by the same conditions which were applicable when I was admitted into the University of Malawi.”

“I accept that I shall meet all the obligations as a student including registering within the stipulated time having met the registration,” further reads the pledge form.

Apart from signing the form, all students before registration are also paying K1,500 as a contribution towards the total cost of damages caused during the recent demonstration.

“I shall undertake to help the college reveal all perpetrators in the ongoing investigations.” reads the form which students are supposed to complete before 25th September 2015.
