The event, which honours the continent’s most outstanding artists and celebrates the rich musical heritage of the African race, will be held on 15 November this year.
The 25-year-old Kalima has been nominated as the Best African RnB & Soul artist for his song Dusty City off his critically acclaimed album Young Shall Grow.
Other nominees in the category include Ghana’s Efya for her song Forgetting Me, Nigeria’s Ruby Gyang for her single Good Man and South African group The Soil for their hit record Susan.
The Spare Dog Records artist confirmed he will attend the awards ceremony and said he was excited with the prospect of brushing shoulders with the continent’s best.

“I was surprised but I must say am happy and honoured to be nominated,” he stated.
“Spare Dog Records sent Dusty City with an e-mail applying for the awards in any category and they (organisers) chose to nominate the song under the Best African RnB & Soul category.”
The Lilongwe-based musician added the trip will present a great opportunity for him to make headway in as far as networking with artists from other counties.
“I’m so excited to go to Nigeria in November, he said.
“I’m looking forward to making a lot of connections with different artists from all over Africa and try to collaborate with a few of them. I think it’s a very big opportunity for me.
“I’m just crossing fingers to represent Malawi well at the awards and get the best out of it because chances are there that I could perform my song Dusty City at the event.”
Danny Kalima was a winner at the 2015 Music Malawi (MUMA) Awards after being voted the Best R&B artist.
