Police have arrested two people Losiati John and Henry Chakaka suspected of murdering a 31- year-old Owen Kajawa in the area of Traditional Authority Malili in Lilongwe.


Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Malawi Zhang Qingyang has pledged to assist Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) in a number of areas in a bid to address the problems the institution is facing.

Ambassador Qingyang made the pledge after visiting MBC TV premises at Kwacha in Blantyre saying it plays a crucial role in enhancing the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The Ambassador also promised to address challenges the station is facing in the areas of equipment such as video cameras and computers, training for staff.


He made the pledge after noticing that the station has not only inadequate but also outdated equipment.


“With poor condition and less equipment you have been working very well to show the people of Malawi about what is going on inside and outside Malawi,” Ambassador Qingyang said.

He promised to establish sister relationship between both MBC TV and radio stations and with Central China Television (CCTV.

“I also appreciate the effort to show people of the friendship between Malawi and China. Now the bilateral relationship has reached the stage to have more close cooperation between China Television and MBC. ”


“MBC to have more of their programmes knowledge of the world and also equipped with advanced technologies for better showing the good of the Warm Heart of Malawi people,” he said.

He said MBC just as China television had the obligation to do more in enhancing cooperation bilateral relationship between the countries.

“We need to discuss and exchange ideas through exchange visits for MBC staff to know more about China and let people in China to know more about Malawi,” he said.

“So in this case we have also to promote our bilateral relationship not only in economy but also in culture, communication, agriculture.”

He commended MBC for having high spirit of working to inform Malawi.

MBC Director General Aubrey Sumbuleta said the trip was important as the Ambassador has promised to assist the MBC in the training of staff and provision of equipment.

“The Ambassador has come here with a lot of goodies. There’s some good news in the areas of training. A few members of staff very soon will be travelling to China for short and long term training programmes,” Sumbuleta said.

“The Ambassador has also disclosed that we are going to receive equipment which is good news because of one the problems of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation has been its obsolete equipment.”


He said the Ambassador has also pledged to send a technical team to look at the infrastructure of building which is in pathetic state.

“The Ambassador has also pledged to send a technical team to look at the system to see how they will be updating equipment,” he said.
