The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has described as wishful thinking the recent assertions by former People's Party (PP) Vice President and cabinet minister Sidik Mia that he was once approached by the DPP to coax him back into the ruling party.

Local government elections will be held on 25 August in five wards, in the districts of Karonga, Mzimba, Zomba, Mangochi and Thyolo.

The newly appointed Minister of Health Dr. Peter Kampalume, M.P. and Deputy Minister of Defence Malison Ndau have been sworn-in today at a ceremony that took place at Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe.
