The European Union (EU) is the latest to add its voice condemning the current spate of attacks on foreigners in South Africa.

Speaking in Lilongwe on the sidelines of a press briefing on EU member states Ambassadors' visit the organization’s funded projects in the EU condems xenophobic attacks being perpetrated by South African nationals on foriegners including Malawians in that country, EU Head of Delegation expressed concerned over the situation which has left many people homeless and injured.

The EU Head of Delegation in Malawi, Marchel Gerrmann stressed on the need to ensure sure that calm returns.

“It is important that the situation has to be as calm as possible” Gerrmann said.

Gerrmann applauded steps taken by government in addressing the needs of Malawian citizens caught up in the attacks.

So far two Malawians have been confirmed dead in the Xenophobic attacks.

The government has moved in to repatriate Malawians affected by the attacks and so far 390 arrived on Monday and have since gone to their homes.
