President Mutharika was speaking at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of two new judges, Jack N’riva and Thomson Ligowe as High Court Judges.
Mutharika reiterated that the Judiciary is the guardian of Malawi’s Constitution and the guarantor of the country’s freedoms and responsibilities and therefore the Judiciary must live up to its mission which he said was ‘to offer independent and impartial justice and judicial services that are efficient and that earn the respect, trust and confidence of our society’.
Said Mutharika: As much as you are judges, also know that your country is waiting to judge you on the basis of how you deliver justice. History will measure your service on the scales of impartiality and timely delivery. Your country will measure you on the same scales. And you must remember that no human is greater than his people, no one is bigger than his country.”
Mutharika seized the moment to invite Malawians in their various capacities to continue supporting the Judiciary so that the rule of law is maintained and human rights upheld in this country.
