Malawi College of Sports Complex has honoured veteran women’s hockey player Rozina Kazembe for her contribution to the development of the sport.

Sports Complex Manager Guz Banda said Kazembe is the longest serving women’s hockey player in the country hence the decision to award her with jersey number framed.

Kazembe applauded Sports Complex for the sport she started playing since 1984 having been inspired by her younger sister.

“I feel very honoured I wasn’t expecting such a thing because I have been playing hockey for a long time. So I was surprised with such a thing.

She also said the award would help to attract more women’s hockey players to commit themselves to the sport.

“This will mean that I will be able to help other sports ladies to play hockey for a long time. I think people will be motivated after seeing what I have received,” she said.

The sister to Malawi national team and Bullets FC legend Thom Kazambe and sister-in-law to Flames assistant coach Jack Chamangwana appealed to more women’s hockey players to develop an interest in the sport.

“I would like to encourage ladies to start playing hockey. We don’t enough women players and I don’t know what keeps women busy,” she said.
Her unique career has taken to play for the national team twice against Zimbabwe and once against Zambia.
