Bullets shot high as Nomads stumble

Big Bullets kept their hopes alive of defending the TNM Super League title after putting Red Lions to the sword with a 4-2 loss at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Bullets came from behind after falling to a third minute goal scored by Kumbukani Mwambene taking advantage of a goalkeeping blunder.


The defending champions have now opened a yawning nine-point gap at the top of the table having collected 38 points while Blue Eagles, who whacked Civo United 4-1 on Saturday, are second with 29 points.


Bullets equalised through Chiukepo Msowoya’s header from a Yamikani Fodya corner kick in the 16th minute and five minutes later, they took lead through new-signing Chikondi Likwemba.


Veteran Henry Kabichi made it 3-1 when he tapped in a frekick from Fodya.


Lions approached the second half as wounded lions pilling pressure.


This led them to reduce the arrears after scoring the second goal through Stevie Ziba in the 65th minute threatening Bullets of winning


Battle-hardened James Chilapondwa ensured of Bullets win with the fourth from the penalty spot after Lions’ goaltender Clement Mlombwa fouled man of the match McFarlen Ngwira.


Bullets were dealt a blow when goalkeeper Owen Chaima was rushed to the hospital after suffering an arm injury.
Blue Eagles inspired by striker Schumacher Kuwali whipped Civo United to a 4-1 thrashing.

The Nomads failed to recover from Civo`s loss after conceding their second consecutive league loss on Saturday after going down 0-1 to Kamuzu Barracks. Zinjani Yona struck the lone goal of the match.


It was Wanderers’ fourth league defeat which puts them 12 points behind leaders Bullets as they have 26 points and are yet to register a win in the second round.


Wanderers, who were gunning for a treble after beating Bullets in the Carlsberg Cup perch on seventh on the log table.


Fisd Wizards returned from Mzuzu with two points after holding Moyale and Mzuni to goalless draws. They now have 11 points from 17 games.


Silver Strikers’ revival under veteran tactician and the club and national team legend Young Chimodzi continued when they edged Dedza Young Soccer 2-1.


Green Harawa and Peter Wadabwa scored for Silver while Amadu Makawa scored for the Super League rookies.
