Man in Mzimba has died following serious wounds he sustained after setting himself on fire.

According to Mzimba Police Spokesperson Constable Gabriel Chiona confirmed that the deceased Martin Gondwe was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mzimba District hospital.

Chiona said Gondwe drained some petrol from a generator; pour it on his body before setting himself ablaze.

"What caused the death is still unknown but we are told that the deceased was heard screaming and mentioning about witchcraft at the compound,” said Chiona.

Details about the deceased remain sketchy but according to Chiona the late Gondwe had just been released from prison where he was serving a one year term for assault and bodily harm.
He is survived by a wife and a son.
