Briefing members of the district environmental subcommittee-DESC in Karonga and Mzimba districts on the campaign, Chief Forest Officer Emily Gondwe admitted that while the country plants a lot of trees annually, most of them die young.
Gondwe said it was because of this reason that the department has embarked on the campaign.
She then called on different stakeholders to participate in caring the planted trees.
During the meetings, it was revealed that Karonga had a tree survival rate of 45% while Mzimba was estimated at below 60%.
