Yesterday the vice president for the party responsible for administration Brown Mpinganjira resigned from the party with immediate effect citing personal reasons.

Mpinganjira who has not disclose his next move has denied rumors that are linking him to the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

His resignation follows that of Sostain Gwengwe on Sunday, running mate to Joyce Banda in the 2014 general elections where the party came third.

According to secretary general of the party, Ibrahim Matola, his party has painfully accepted the resignations and that it will map the way forward.

“We can confess that the move has come as a shock to our party but we have accepted it and we will be meeting soon to map the way forward.” Matola said.

Matola was however mum if the absence of the party`s founder Madame Joyce Banda is the reason for the exodus.

However an electoral expert, Unandi Banda who heads the National Election System Trust (NEST) said the resignations are having a negative bearing on the orange camp and added that only a postmortem of the events is key to its survival.

“PP should meet and discuss the future of the party as soon as possible because at the rate at how things are going, it’s not good for them.” sad Banda.

Political analyst Dr Blessings Chinsinga says the resigned members are doing such because they were co-opted to be in the party and they are doing such to revive their careers.

“I don’t blame these people because these people joined the party with expectations and when the party is in opposition their expectations are not being mate hence the move. “ said Chinsinga.

Harry Mkandawire who was vice president for the northern region also resigned after George Zulu a former deputy secretary general also voluntarily walked towards the party`s exit door.
