Govt. receives K900m for Parliament building project

Government has signed an agreement with the Chinese government to the tune of K900 million for the implementation of the third phase of the technical cooperation for the Parliament Building Project.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Lilongwe, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development Goodall Gondwe said a team of seven technical experts will be available to offer technical support to the project.  

   

Gondwe said government will be responsible for sending Malawian technicians to China for training to ensure that local technicians are attached to experts to facilitate transfer of skills. 

    

The Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Zhang Qingyang said the third phase of the Parliament Building Project will take at least two years to be completed.     

Ambassador Zhang said his country is committed to provide necessary technical support and train local technicians for the job.    

 

Meanwhile the Chinese Government has donated 844 sets of mobile solar power systems worth K1.9 billion to the Malawi government.  

The mobile solar power systems are aimed at providing power to rural health and education facilities.

    

The donation followed signing of an agreement in December 2014 by the governments of Malawi and China.
