Making the donation, TNM’s Managing Executive-Information & Billing Services Peter Munthali said as part of its Nature Walk initiative, the company decided to extend the Health Living theme to help communities live a healthy life.
“Annually, TNM members of staff engage in nature walks across its all four operating regions and for Blantyre region and head office, the walk is normally undertaken through this community and that is why TNM today joins Malawians of goodwill to donate assorted items to the elderly and physically challenged,” Munthali said.
The theme for this year’s Nature Walk is: Living a Health Life and the walk took place in Blantyre, Zomba, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.
“TNM is promoting the health living of our members of staff and the communities in which we operate and as such, the company felt obliged to extend this gesture to vulnerable groups around this area because we believe basic necessities like soap are also essential in promoting health living of our society,” he said.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment towards assisting the needy people to at least access basic needs.
“These community members are also our friends and we are reaching out to them because they have made this brand what it is today. Let me assure you that as a local company, we will continue to be with you in suffering or joy,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Group Village Headman Binali thanked TNM for the kind gesture.
“On behalf of all the recipients, I would like to thank TNM for this donation. This is early Christmas gift to us and we don’t take this kind gesture for granted,” said Binali.
The items donated include sugar, soap, cooking oil and salt. Over 150 elderly and physically challenged people benefited from the donation.
The Blantyre nature walk started at Milale and finished at Kamuzu View along Blantyre-Chikwawa road.
