Patel said this when she officially handed over nine bridges that have been constructed and rehabilitated to communities at Mbwazi bridge.

Patel has constructed two new bridges and rehabilitated seven old ones totaling to nine bridges using constituency development fund CDF.

According to Patel estate owners use big trucks to ferry firewood that break the bridges saying the proposed bylaws will require such trucks to pay a small amount of money as levy to maintain the bridges when they break.

“Construction and rehabilitation of the bridges has cost about 6 million kwacha and the bylaws are being proposed to make sure that the bridges are well looked after”, said Patel.

Patel expressed optimism that 2015/2016 CDF which has been raised to K12 million up from K9 million will enable her attend to many bridges as the area has numerous bridges that need attention.

“The constituency has also been allocated 24 million kwacha from the 290 million kwacha under the Mangochi district development plan, and we are going to allocate a good amount to bridges in addition to other development projects such as schools and police units”, lamented Patel.

Parliamentarians get an annual funding named constituency development fund to develop their constituencies.
