The session sought to find lasting solutions to security challenges faced by the two neighbouring countries.

“No country can develop with instability, therefore we need to make sure our countries are stable both along the borders and within the countries” said Malawi’s Minister of Homeland Security Nicholas Dausi, in his closing remarks.

Dausi said the two countries should maintain peace and security in their countries since they are pre-requisite for social-economic development.

His Zambian counterpart Minister of Defence Davies Chama said Malawi and Zambia security threats have been worsened by climate change that has slowed down maize production.

“Because the two countries have no enough maize, some people have taken advantage to smuggle maize into the two countries” said Chama, who led the Zambian delegation.

Malawi’s principal secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Bright Kumwembe, said on the opening day that security challenges facing the two countries werre evolving everyday hence the need to meet and find solutions.
