Mpinagira  was speaking to MBC after visiting several sections of the road from Miseu Folo up to Chitakale.

He said according to his observations during the tour there are parts of the road where the tarmac is bleeding and therefore need to be reworked.

"What I have seen is not the best of impression. Largely the road is good but there are parts which need to be reworked," Mpinganjira said.

Mpinganjira, accompanied by officials from Roads Authority Board and Fargo Limited, said he had noticed that about eight kilometres of the road have parts where the tarmac is bleeding. 

"Because of the bleeding of the tar the road is unstable, so we want the contractor to fix this parts". 

Mpinganjira told MBC that the contractor has acknowledged the mistakes and has since been given a month to do the work. He said the team would be back in two weeks time to observe how the improvements will be made. 

"The Contractor is well aware of any penalties that could ensue if corrective measures are not implemented. Therefore I am confident that the work will be done."

The RA Chairperson echoed the State Presidents concerns over some Contractors who have been doing substandard work.

The Zomba-Jali-Phalombe-Chitakale road covers 102 kilometres and stretches across 3 districts of Zomba, Phalombe and Mulanje and is considered to be of great economic and development value when completed.  Motorists from Mulanje and Phalombe will no longer have to pass through Blantyre when connecting to Zomba.
