M5 road impassable

The Roads Authority (RA) has temporarily closed M5  following heavy damage to the road by rains making it impassable to motorists between Nkhotakota and Salima.


“We will never interfere with ongoing judicial process. The final report has nothing to do with the court decision, it deals with different things,” Miroslav Poche, Chief Observer of the European Union Elections Observer Mission (EU-EOM), told journalists, in defending the EU’s mission to present to Malawian uthorities a final report of the May 21 tripartite polls.


President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on Friday launched an ambitious  $95 million (K71 billion) Agricultural Commercialization Project which among a litany of objectives is to empower farmers by providing good financing for investing in agriculture and  creating access to well-structured markets in order to give value to farmers’ produce.


President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika said while the opposition in this country was capitalising on the poverty of the people to manipulate them into behaviour of violence, his main mission is to empower poor people to become self-dependent.
