Nankhumwa made the appeal during a whistle-stop tour he conducted in the district, together with other party leaders.

“We are mobilizing our people here in Phalombe to go and register in the on-going MEC registration so that they may vote for Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the DPP,” said Nankhumwa.

He further appealed to chiefs and other traditional authorities to help those who don’t have national identity cards. On this, he warned chiefs who ask for money from their subjects to prove that they are really members of their communities.

“Those traditional leaders who ask for money from their subjects just to prove that the member in question is part of the community should better stop,” warned Nankhumwa hinting that his Ministry has powers to remove such traditional leaders.

On hunger, the Vice President for the South said President Mutharika's administration will provide food to those affected; he however called for transparency and accountability in the distribution exercise.

“Let the support benefit the needy. As the President use to say, no one will die because of hunger,” he said appealing for peace and unity among Malawians.

Southern regional governor for the DPP Charles Mchacha was part of the day long tour in Phalombe. In his address Mchacha reminded people in Phalombe what the DPP administration within 4 years has achieved.
