The three-day demos, organized by Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) , kicked off Wednesday in the major cities of Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Blantyre.

The attacked journalists are Golden Matonga of Nations Publication and Gladys Nthenda of

Nthenda was quoted as saying the mob accused her of ‘being sent’ to take pictures on behalf of the Police.

“I was assaulted my phone was taken away… I tried to show them my ID from but they couldn't listen. They tore my clothes, I was rescued by an MDF officer who escorted me to a nearby Times vehicle after which I left for our car.”

This is the first time that reporters have been attacked by demonstrators.

The demos have turned ugly in Lilongwe and Mzuzu, where looting, injuring of police and innocent bystanders, demolition of private and public property, has be rampant.

The rights activists, supported by opposition parties MCP and UTM, have been adamant that they won’t stop until Ansah resigns.

Ansah herself has been resolute that she won’t quit because the rights activists are conducting “mob justice.”

She says she will only throw in the towel until the Constitutional court hearing the case petitioned by the opposition to nullify the presidential results, delivers its ruling on the conduct of the May 21 elections.
