Malawi’s Chimwemwe Kankwamba crowned Miss Deaf Africa

A young Malawian  with hearing impairment, Chimwemwe  Kamkwamba , has been crowned 2019 Miss Deaf Africa, after she  outshone contestants fromAfrican countries in a tightly contested beauty pageant held in the Seychelles.

 Gender, Children,  Disability and Social Welfare Minister  Mary Navicha warmly welcomed Chimwemwe home, citing that Kamkwamba has proved that "disability is not inability."


 Kamkwamba broke down to tears of joy when she saw Navicha welcoming her at KIA. 


For her part Kankwamba said she will use her new profile to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities including girls, saying gitrls should  not "relent in their pursuit of educational excellence."


The trip to Sychelles was made possible with financial support from Malawi Gaming Board where Ted Nandolo is the board chairperson and said the board was impressed to note that the assistance has bore fruits.


This is the second time Kankwamba has taken part in the beauty pageant.
