Chakwera was addressing the nation Tuesday from Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe in the wake of the pandemic that has so far claimed the lives of 235 Malawians.
"50 out of such deaths have occurred within the first 11 days of 2021," said the Malawi leader.
The President has since declared three days of national mourning in honour of Belekanyama and Mia.
Meanwhile, the Malawi leader has declared a State of National Disaster using Section 31 Subsection 1 of Disaster preparedness and relief Act of 1991.
