The Flames are set to play in a must win game at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre and Coach Ernest Mtawali described Kamwendo's absence as a big blow to the team.
Shakira as he is fondly called got his first yellow card when flames lost 2-1 at home to Zimbabwe last year in October and a second last Friday in Guinea where flames were held to a 0- 0 draw.
“I can confirm that the lad will not play today but we have a new plan that is promising,”
“In Guinea we used a defending approach but today we need to collect all the three points and the approach will be different. We should go for an attacking approach. Today’s game will be difficult as you know Guinea is a very good side. The team has about 15 professional players and their coach is very good and well experienced. But we are ready for the game,” added Mtawali.
However the former Mighty Wanderers and Orlando pirates’ marksman is hoping that his team mates will give Malawians the much needed win today.
“It's bad news for me considering that we need to collect maximum points but I believe that my friends will do a great job and fight until we claim victory today,” said Kamwendo.
The flames are still on position 3 in Group L with 2 points. Today’s win will boost the chances for the flames to qualify for next year African Cup Nations.
In the same group yesterday, Zimbabwe beat Swaziland 4 – 1 at home.
