Cotton farmers deserve fair prices for their crop – Pres. Mutharika

Written by

The Malawi leader Professor Peter Mutharika has urged cotton buyers to offer fair prices to farmers for their crop.

President Mutharika was speaking when commissioning ADMARC Cotton Ginnery in Balaka.

He said farmers were supposed to realize full benefits from their crop saying cotton production and processing were one of the oldest industries in Malawi.

President Mutharika said cotton production creates more jobs.  He said the opening of the ginnery was a testimony that Malawi was on the path to industrialization.

President Mutharika said the factory will ensure exports and create jobs thereby ensuring that the country was a producing and exporting nation.

The Malawi leader said the cotton ginnery in Balaka, Ngabu in Chikwawa and Ngala in Karonga will provide jobs to Malawians.

Professor Mutharika said the DPP-government has a vision of developing the country by opening factories, creating more jobs, building schools, community colleges and implementing the public service reform programme among others.

In his speech the Malawi leader commended the Indian government for the line credit for the cotton ginnery factory.
